Triple P Training: Intervention Descriptions

What is Primary Care Triple P?

Primary Care Triple P is a brief, targeted intervention in a one-to-one format that assists parents in developing plans to manage mild behavioral issues (such as tantrums, fighting, going shopping) and skill development issues (such as eating independently, toilet training, staying in bed at night). Practitioners provide 3 to 4 sessions (15-30 minutes each) over 4 to 6 weeks. Sessions are available in person, over the phone, or as a combination of both.

What is Brief Primary Care?

For parents and caregivers who need brief parenting advice in a one-to-one format, practitioners provide 1 to 2 sessions (15-30 minutes each) to assist parents in developing plans to manage mild behavioral issues (such as tantrums, fighting, going shopping) and skill development issues (such as eating independently, toilet training, staying in bed at night). Sessions are offered in-person, over the phone, or as a combination of both.

What are Provider Learning Outcomes?

  • Early detection and effective management of child behavior problems.
  • Core principles of positive parenting and behavior change.
  • Specific positive parenting strategies for promoting children’s development.
  • Effective parent consultation, including active skills training.
  • Identification of indicators suggesting more intervention is required and appropriate referral procedures.
